The City of Madison hosts Christmas in July Donation Drive for Local CASA Kids
In a touching display of community spirit this July, the City of Madison and CASA of Jefferson County are collaborating to bring joy and necessary resources to local children served by CASA. This initiative, commencing at the start of the month, is aimed at accumulating essential supplies for these young individuals who are under the protective umbrella of CASA.
Whitney Roberts, Executive Director of CASA, offered her insight into the significance of this initiative. "Back-to-school time is an exciting phase where children get a chance to progress to a new grade, or perhaps retry a previous one, and reconnect with friends. However, it can also be daunting when these children, who are already experiencing challenging circumstances, lack the necessary supplies to confidently begin their school year," Roberts said.
In response to this, residents of Madison are being asked to donate new and unused items. The requested donations range from hair accessories and individually packaged tissues to scientific calculators, high-quality earbuds, and durable, reusable water bottles. The drive also calls for full-sized hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, body sprays, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, brushes, and discreetly packaged female hygiene products, along with elementary school supplies like tissues, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and sanitizing wipes.
Reflecting on the drive's potential impact, Roberts stated, "When observing all the organizations hosting drives, one can only imagine the sigh of relief from parents and caregivers in our community." Further explaining their unique approach, she added, "When the city proposed this project to us, we wanted it to reflect our work's uniqueness and the innovative spirit of our City."
This drive's success is a testament to the powerful collaboration with CASA of Jefferson County, a nonprofit dedicated to recruiting, educating, and supporting CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers. These dedicated advocates work tirelessly to ensure the best interests of children who have unfortunately experienced neglect and abuse.
Roberts further emphasized the organization's commitment to the community, stating, "This partnership is our method of providing the most vulnerable children and families in our community with the very best, which I firmly believe is a critical element in the journey towards healthier and happier families."
The City of Madison is encouraging its residents to support this noble cause and help ensure every child served by CASA has the essential supplies they need. For further inquiries about the drive, residents can reach out to the City of Madison at 812-265-8300.
