GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Lead Volunteer Coordinator provides professional staff support to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteers, ensuring that child abuse victims assigned to CASA of Jefferson County receive sound advocacy and early permanency planning. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for volunteer supervision and coordination of up to 30 volunteer advocates the child abuse victims in their cases. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position. This position also works alongside Program Manager, and supervises in place of Program Manager. This position requires an individual who is committed to speaking up in various environments on behalf of abused and neglected children, testifying in court often, coaching volunteers how to testify in court, preparing legal filings, and keeping case files and data up to date.
QUALIFICATIONS
The Volunteer Coordinator should have the following education, skills, and experience:
· Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Business, Human Services, Child Development, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Juvenile Justice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· The ability to communicate with, supervise, and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles.
· The ability to work cooperatively with different types of personalities.
· Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect given preference.
· Commitment to CASA of Jefferson County’s mission and goals.
· Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
· Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
· Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of materials of light weight. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Volunteer Coordinator is hired by and reports directly to the Program Manager, who is responsible for his/her regular performance evaluation. Collaborates with community partners such as court personnel, Department of Child Services, Youth & Families, and others. Supervision of CASA volunteers, including case documentation review and coordination. Provide professional staff support to ensure that children receive sound advocacy. Reporting on and staffing with Program Manager on essential case records. Providing input into identifying, developing, and implementing program needs and goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Complete program's initial training session for volunteer advocates
- Complete State CASA office’s new employee training
- Complete 12 hours of in-service training a year, in accordance with State and National standards.
- Complete no less than 40 hours a year of ongoing staff training
- Review new cases and assign appropriate volunteers in consultation with Program Manager.
- Prepare and distribute various legal filings, records requests
- Help volunteers develop initial case plans and on-going case strategies for advocacy for child abuse victims
- Attend court hearings, CFTM’s with volunteers assigned to you
- Cover court hearings & CFTM’s as requested
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files of child victims assigned to you in Optima
- Enter case information on child abuse victims into system for tracking on ongoing basis
- Track court dates and attend court hearings as applicable
- Supervise every assigned case/volunteer routinely, in accordance with State and National Standards
- Ensure that the volunteer assigned is visiting the child abuse victim as required, at a minimum
- Staff forward movement in cases with Program Manager
- Staff Motion/Orders with Program Manager
- Staff psych evals, D&E’s, and other evals with Program Manager
- Provide other assistance and consultation for volunteer advocates monthly and when requested
- Attend staff meetings and assist in the evaluation of the protocols as requested or applicable
- Assist and participate in volunteer appreciation and recognition activities and events
- Attend conferences/seminars/meetings as requested by Executive Director, Program Manager, and Program Coordinator to improve efficiency of advocacy to child abuse victims
- Complete work time sheets
- Attend new CASA volunteer trainings
- Participate in major fundraisers
- Flex time responsibly in coordination with the Program Manager to ensure self-care.
