Keagan Hatton: Making Art with the Pieces Through Music
To show his support for a great cause, local musician and rising star Keagan Hatton will be performing live at the 2023 When Your Heart Is Broken, Make Art With The Pieces Charity Auction hosted by and benefiting CASA of Jefferson County.
Local musician Keagan Hatton is a rising star who will be performing at the When Your Heart Is Broken, Make Art With The Pieces Charity Auction this year. Keagan's story is one of determination and passion for music, as he used the time during the Covid-19 pandemic to teach himself how to play the guitar.
At just 9 years old, Keagan received a guitar and took a few lessons, but it was in December 2019 that he picked up the instrument again. With time on his hands, he began watching YouTube videos and practicing for hours each day. Although he admits he was not very good at first, he improved quickly and now plays for crowds throughout the region.
Keagan's love of classic country artists like Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash is evident in his performances, but his musical tastes have expanded since he began playing. He often performs as a solo act, which can be quite challenging, with one of his most recent gigs featuring nearly 50 songs played over a three-hour span.
Despite his busy school and extracurricular activities schedule, Keagan continues to play whenever he has free time. One of his goals is to record his own songs, but he is still searching for the perfect ones. He explained that songwriting can be inspired by anything from a conversation to a life experience, and sometimes the inspiration hits at the perfect moment.
Whitney Roberts, Executive Director of CASA Jefferson County, recently shared her admiration for local musician Keagan Hatton. "I heard about this 16-year-old musician who made the best of Covid by teaching himself to play the guitar," Roberts said. "The stories surrounding his strength and passion for music and how he took the opportunity to make the best of an unprecedented time intrigued me. I had to see him for myself, so I attended a Keagan Hatton concert earlier this year. I was blown away by his talent and his attitude about life." Roberts explained that what impressed her the most was how Keagan had used the pandemic to pursue his passion for music and literally Made Art with the Pieces.
After seeing Keagan perform, Roberts knew that she wanted to support his music career in any way she could. "When Keagan and his family learned about our program, Keagan immediately wanted to donate his time to play for our guests," she explained. "When a company heard that he would be joining us, they stepped up to sponsor Keagan. We both agreed that we have to keep this kid going and support his music career."
Thanks to the sponsorship from Wildflower Event Center at Carver Creek Farms, Keagan will be performing at the When Your Heart Is Broken, Make Art With The Pieces Charity Auction this year. It's an excellent opportunity for Keagan to showcase his talent while supporting a worthy cause. Roberts encourages everyone to come out and listen to Keagan play. "He's truly something special," she said. "Not just because of his talent, but also because of his attitude and willingness to use his music to make a difference in the world."
Keagan's story is a reminder that even during difficult times, we can use the opportunity to pursue our passions and Make Art with the Pieces. His dedication to music and desire to share it with others is an inspiration to us all.
