Call To Action: Our Community of Child Advocates Invites You to Join our Network Training Begins February 4, 2025

CASA volunteers are everyday people from all walks of life who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. They are not social workers or lawyers, but rather trained individuals who bring compassion, empathy, and a commitment to advocacy. CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to serve as a voice for foster children, ensuring that their needs are met and their voices are heard throughout the entire judicial process.

CASA of Jefferson County is a transformative initiative that empowers volunteers to make a profound impact on the lives of children who have faced abuse, neglect, or abandonment. If you are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, consider joining our team of dedicated CASA volunteers. With just one night of training per week during the month of February, you can become a voice for abused and neglected children in our community.

As a CASA volunteer, you will become a trusted voice for a vulnerable child, providing them with advocacy, support, and guidance as they navigate the complex legal system and seek a safe and stable future. As you investigate cases, gather information, and provide recommendations to the judge, you will play a vital role in ensuring that children's needs are met, their rights are protected, and they are placed in safe and permanent homes.

Executive Director Whitney Roberts shares, “It is a serious commitment that we seek from our community members. We have many children whose futures are being written right now. Let's change that trajectory for the better. We will do this together, every step of the way.”

To Become a CASA Volunteer you must be at least 21 years old, pass multiple background and fingerprint checks, be able to commit to the life of a child’s case, understand the role of a CASA volunteer and attend the 30 hour National GAL/CASA training classes, hosted by Whitney Roberts, ED and board president, Dr. Linda Zapp. The event is sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College Madison Campus.

Zapp shares, “Whitney and I both became involved as CASA volunteers and deeply understand the importance of this role. We believe that with empowerment, respect, and support of our volunteers we unlock their potential to make a transformative impact on the lives of children. We are committed to investing in our volunteers and ensuring their success as advocates for children in need.”

At this time, the program has 35 volunteers, 5 staff members, and a Board of Directors who all directly support the children in Jefferson county experiencing the child welfare system. A list of these individuals can be found at www.casajc.net/about
