Mandated Reporter Training

The in-person Mandated Reporter Training, hosted by PCA of Jefferson County, with CASA and the CAC as esteemed guests, is designed to elucidate the responsibilities mandated by state and federal laws for reporting suspected child maltreatment. Shannon Perry, Director of Community Outreach for the CAC will discuss what it means to be a Mandated Reporter. This comprehensive program will cover the current state statutes, reporting requirements, as well as signs and symptoms of various types of maltreatment. Participants will be equipped with the skills needed for conducting minimal facts interviews, thereby minimizing trauma and improving the outcomes of investigations.

The Children's Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, known for providing forensic interviews and support in a child-friendly environment, plays a crucial role in the healing process for victims and their families. This training is a step forward in the fight against child abuse and neglect, reinforcing the fact that in Indiana, everyone is a mandated reporter, regardless of age or occupation.

Program Objectives:

  • Define and clarify the roles and responsibilities of a mandated reporter according to The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act and current Indiana Code.

  • Provide clear understanding of legal definitions for child abuse and neglect.

  • Highlight potential indicators of child abuse to aid in early detection.

  • Boost confidence in participants regarding the appropriate response to suspected child abuse.

  • Enhance skills in conducting minimal facts interviews effectively.

  • Educate on proper procedures for effective reporting.
