CASA of Jefferson County Celebrates Major Milestone: Zero Children on Waitlist
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jefferson County, IN, July 31, 2025
CASA of Jefferson County is proud to announce a historic and heartfelt milestone: for the first time in nearly two years, there are zero children on the waitlist to receive advocacy services from a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer.
This achievement marks a powerful moment in the organization’s journey to serve every child who has experienced abuse or neglect and is navigating the court system in Jefferson County. These children — many of whom are in foster care — now all have the support of a dedicated advocate to speak up for their best interests in court, in schools, and in life.
“This milestone is a direct reflection of the compassion, commitment, and relentless efforts of our volunteers and staff,” said Whitney Roberts, Executive Director of CASA of Jefferson County. “When we say CASA of Jefferson County, we are talking about our volunteers. They are the heart of this organization.”
Since October 2023, the program has been operating with a waitlist — a tough reality for children who urgently need advocacy and support. Today, thanks to strategic volunteer recruitment, consistent training opportunities, and the unwavering dedication of current advocates, the waitlist has officially been cleared.
This success was made possible in part by community-driven fundraising efforts, including events like Art with the Pieces and the new Rumble on the River Car Show, which helped generate essential funds for volunteer recruitment, retention, and training. Those funds empowered the program to host multiple training sessions and invest in building a strong network of child advocates.
CASA of Jefferson County is a nonprofit organization serving all of Jefferson County, based in downtown Madison, Indiana. The organization is a proud member of the National CASA Association, the Indiana GAL/CASA network, the Madison Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson County. CASA also serves as a designated Safe Place location, providing a lifeline for youth in crisis.
“Every child deserves a voice,” added Roberts. “Because of our incredible volunteers and supporters, every child in our care as of today now has one.”
